Many Qatar residents have called their resentment against shopping outlets for not
showcasing the prices of products as directed by Ministry of Economics and
Commerce.
Ahead of Ramadan, Ministry of Economics and Commerce issued
compiled list of fixed prices for 400 non-food items, and some basic
necessities such as flour, rice, sugar and other edible items- due to high
demand of these during Fasting month. Ministry also instructed shopping outlets
to ensure that all the prices are prominently displayed for shoppers.
While many customers appreciated this step taken by the
government, they also stated their outrage for the lack of public awareness.
One of customer complained that the shopping outlets and stores are either not
complying with the prices set by the ministry, or they are not making the list
visible for customers. In addition to this, he also criticized that it is
really difficult to locate a certain item in the 400 items long list, which is neither
categorized nor simplified.
It is also seen that customers are not able to differentiate
among the prices set by ministry, and the promotional offers by certain
shopping centers. One of the customers also protested that some of the shopping
centers are offering more killing prices than the ministry itself- spreading
confusion in the public. However, some of the products on promotions do not
differ by more than 1QR, which is negligible.
With all the criticism voiced over the initiative, customers
have applauded for government for this, and wish that these initiatives should
be made public widely- and more often.
